Many in Hongkong will read with interest the announcement of the marriage at Shanghai last week of Mr. J. M. Gordon to Mrs. Grant, widow of the late Mr. Peter Grant.
Mr. W. G. Peter has resumed the management of the Penang branch of the Chartered Bank, on Mr. E. E. Chambers proceeding home on leave. Mr. A. W. Vick has succeeded Mr. Peter as manager of the Singapore Branch of the Bank.
The Kwangsi Government are offering 30 per cent. of the net profits of the Kwangsi Mint for a loan for the purpose of improving the mint. Certain Canton merchants have been approached on the subject. The report does not mention the amount of the loan.
A movement is on foot to re-open an oil silver mine at Yuan-hung-shan, Tung- Koon district. Owing to insufficient capital work on the mine was closed down ten
